Job Description
Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), a Member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for a highly energetic tenure-track Assistant Professor in Animal Science. This position is a nine-month appointment, with 75% teaching and 25% research responsibilities (nine credit hours each in the spring and fall semesters). The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to their area of expertise as well as animal science courses offered in the Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Technology (ASVT) ( e.g. of potential courses: Preparation for Animal Ag, Contemporary Issues, Domestic Animal Behavior, etc.) . The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded, multidisciplinary research program specializing in small ruminant animal science that focuses on management of sheep and goats that may include nutrition, genetics, reproduction, animal health, grazing systems, product quality, etc. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor graduate students and develop and maintain close-working relationships with the community and/or food-animal industry stakeholders . A competitive negotiable salary and benefit package will be offered that will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of expertise . Availabi lity for employment by s pring 202 6 semester is expected.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Animal Science, or a closely related field from an accredited university. Evidence of successful teaching and basic and / or applied research experience in small ruminants , livestock production, or related research areas are preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, and candidates should have evidence of scholarly achievement in teaching and research. Other requirements include a commitment to high standards of academic professionalism and a positive attitude for teamwork.
The Department:
The ASVT at TAMUK is an integral part of the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. In addition to awarding Bachelor of Science degree s in Animal Science, with degree emphases in General Animal Science or Pre-Veterinary Animal Science , or Veterinary Technology, a Master of Science degree program in Animal Science is offered in the ASVT department . The Department of ASVT is the largest academic department on the picturesque campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, with 1 5 faculty, and approximately 25 graduate and 500 undergraduate students . It is home to the only Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology program in Texas and the renowned King Ranch® Institute for Ranch Management. The 2 50-acre Texas A&M University-Kingsville Farm houses beef cows, meat goats, and hair- and wool- sheep operations , and provides students with hands-on training in basic food animal production management and techniques. The ASVT values innovative teaching, experiential learning, global and historical perspectives, and encourages collaborative endeavors.
