Assistant Director of Finance

Westport

$90K–$105K + Benefits

A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance to support the Director of Finance in overseeing accounting and financial operations. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and wants to contribute to an organization making a meaningful community impact.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Oversee day-to-day accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll

+ Support preparation of monthly financial statements, budget-to-actual reports, and cash flow analysis

+ Assist in the annual budget process and long-term financial planning

+ Manage grant and contract reporting to ensure compliance with funder requirements

+ Coordinate audit preparation and support external auditors

+ Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies

+ Supervise and mentor junior finance staff

+ Partner with program and development teams to provide financial insights for decision-making

Requirements

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA a plus)

+ 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector

+ Strong knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting

+ Experience with grants management, compliance, and restricted funds

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate across departments

+ Leadership ability with experience supervising staff preferred
