    Employment Status: Part-Time (.5 - .74)

     

    Hours per Pay Period: 0.60 = 48 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)

     

    Starting Wage DOE: $33.66 - 42.07

     

    Under minimal supervision and guidance from the Director of Quality, Director of Nursing and the Infectious Disease Medical Director, are responsible for designing and facilitating a patient centered, system-minded and evidence-based infection control and prevention program for all areas of CAH Facility. The scope of service includes the CAH, Rural Health Clinic and Community Services. Major responsibilities include the surveillance, prevention, control, and reporting of healthcare-associated infections that may place patients at risk while receiving care at the CAH Facility. Additionally, CAH Infection Control RN is responsible for working with other departments in assuring necessary process improvement projects are progressing.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Supports practices and quality improvement activities through leadership and staff, utilizing the knowledge of process improvement principles and quality standards towards improved patient care and services.

    • Serves as a resource for process improvement methodologies (e.g. Rapid Cycle Change – Plan Do Study Act (PDSA), Complexity inspired approaches (e.g. Positive Deviance and other Liberating Structures, Lean Six Sigma, Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to fulfill the organization’s strategic initiatives for quality measurement, management and improvement.

    • Educates and assists CAH leadership and medical staff in identifying and capitalizing upon opportunities for improvement in the area of infection prevention and control and facilitate cross-functional team development, when appropriate.

     

    [Examples include Instrument Quality Committee, local, state, and national collaboratives (e.g. MPQH HAI LAN (Learning & Action Network), Comprehensive Unit Safety Program (CUSP), Precautions to Prevent Spread of MRSA (PD MRSA), Premier’s QUEST & Partnership for Patients) emerging infections, emergency response planning (Health Medical Advisory Group), and assisting leaders with improving systems and processes to reduce risk of infections]

     

    • Identify and arrange for consulting assistance from internal or external sources as required to meet the needs of the quality committee, quality improvement teams, medical staff, or others requiring quality and/or process improvement consultations. Recommend external resources for problem resolution (e.g. CDC, local and state health department resources). Assess internal strengths or need for outside resources.

    • Accountable to establish and maintain processes to measure healthcare-associated infections (HAI) including the development of routine reporting (e.g. quarterly and annual reports), outbreak investigations, and development of recommendations to reduce the risk of HAI’s. Ensures tools to aggregate data for monitoring and analysis of processes within the organization are developed and maintained (e.g. NHSN, statistical data analysis, outbreak investigations and case control studies). Performs as a team facilitator and driver of change for projects as assigned.

    • Maintains unit-based customer relationships and visible, approachable, collegial relationships with managers and staff.

    • Directs the development and delivery of annual training and education in infection prevention and control; including educational experiences e.g. improvisational sessions, discovery and action dialogues, fact sheets, competency skills training, and support of and facilitating process improvement teams and developing others to facilitate.

    • Serves as a resource to the organization for continuous readiness for accreditation processes and compliance with CMS, OSHA (e.g. Bloodborne Pathogen final rule, Needlestick Prevention Act, TB) and employee health issues such as communicable disease management.

    • Provides support to risk management of infection prevention and control-related customer complaints and issues related to the quality of patient care and/or services. Adherence to state and federal disclosure of health information obligations and restrictions is critical.

    • Assists in the development and communication of department specific and CAH policies and procedures. Facilitates ongoing maintenance and review of currency of the organization’s administrative and department-specific infection control policies.

    • Participates in both short- and long-term planning for the department and provides input into the annual budget process. Supports fiscal responsibility in day-to-day activities.

    • Communicates to employees of the organization on behalf of the vision, values, and strategic goals of the organization.

    • Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.

    • Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    • Two (2) Year/Associate’s Degree in Nursing

    • Four (4) Year/Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and/or ability to obtain one within 3 years of hire - Preferred

    Experience

    • Three (3) years’ successful experience in health care

    Certifications and Licenses

    • Three to five years’ successful experience in health care – At hire

    • Board certification in Infection Control (CIC) and Epidemiology – Preferred/Need to obtain certification within the first three (3) years of employment

    • MT Driver License and the ability to be insured to operate organization vehicles – At hire

     

    - Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered

     

    - Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified, and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
