    Description:

    Supports the delivery of patient care through the receipt, processing, and routing of specimens. Completes registration of outside patients including billing and insurance information. Provides customer friendly service to any person requesting supplies or information by phone, computer or in person.

     

    Performs duties for pre- and post-analytical testing according to standard operating procedures. Receives and evaluates all specimens to ensure positive identification and appropriateness of sample. Properly processes samples for testing performed in-house and/or

     

    referred to outside laboratories. Interacts positively with clients when inappropriate specimens or short samples have been submitted. Works with fellow team members to properly triage and efficiently move samples through the pre-analytical phase of testing.

     

    Accurately registers patients using proper procedures to ensure proper billing of and maximum reimbursement for laboratory services.

     

    Understands and uses the laboratory computer programs correctly to provide accurate information for testing, tracking, reporting and billing. Investigates unreceived samples from satellite locations.

     

    Communicates effectively and respectfully with other members of the health care team. Obtains patient test results from laboratory information system to provide verbal reports to physicians and nursing staff. Faxes information to physician offices as requested and

     

    according to hospital policy. Consistently maintains patient confidentiality. Recalls patients for sample collection when necessary.

     

    Accurately orders and receives specimens for outside patients with proper client and diagnostic information to assure proper billing and reporting. Works with staff in Anatomic Pathology to accurately accession PAP smears from satellite facilities and to track pathology

     

    samples from satellites and outside clients.

     

    Correctly releases tests ordered by physicians in EPIC using order release guidelines and/or accurately enters test orders from manual requisitions.

     

    Participates in departmental quality improvement activities as directed by supervisor/manager. Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality, cost-effective outcomes.
