Organization Overview
Our lab consists of lab members (Research Assistants, Graduate Students, and Postdocs) studying the molecular basis of obesity-associated diseases. Our studies focus on the biology of white and brown adipose tissue and span from basic molecular and cell biology to whole animal physiology and human subjects.
Overview
The Research Assistant will work on a project performing in vitro experiments on brown adipocytes to genetically manipulate them and test different pharmacologic agents on them. In this position, they will genotype specific mouse strains with mutations in our candidate genes. Lastly, they will perform experiments to assess outcomes after in vitro experiments, gene/protein expression analyses, as well as assays on live cells.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
+ In-vitro experiments of adipocytes
+ Genotyping animal strains
+ Gene/ protein expression analyses
+ Imaging experiments on tissue from animal model
+ Metabolic experiments on live animal model, including glucose tolerance test and insulin tolerance test
+ Biochemical experiments to identify and characterize secreted proteins and
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a science major and prior laboratory experience required. The applicant should have experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, and a willingness to work with animal models.
