Overview
In this role, you will be involved across aspects of the editorial administrative day-to-day of the Harper imprint. You will report to two Executive Editors and will learn and be responsible for key tasks involved in author relations, manuscript routing and evaluation, seasonal book launch preparation, fact sheet and copy writing, jacket design, and other areas.
This is a great opportunity to do hands-on work with the editors responsible for internationally prominent titles in fiction and select nonfiction.
Responsibilities
+ Develop a working understanding of the teams and tasks involved in publication of the Harper imprint’s books.
+ Learn important publishing software programs and use them to assist in author communications, expense processing, and other departmental functions.
+ Help read and evaluate submissions.
+ Help prepare submissions to literary awards.
+ Contribute to preparation for the launch of upcoming titles.
+ Attend meetings of interest. You’ll have a great chance to get to know editors and other staff.
Qualifications
+ Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2026 or 2027 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry level candidates with up to two years of work experience.
+ Candidates must be available to work 28 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from June 8 to August 13, 2026, at our New York City office. This internship is compensated at a rate of $18 per hour.

+ Ideal candidates are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
+ A passion for books is highly valued!
+ Proactive and attentive to detail
+ Engaged and thoughtful communicator willing to coordinate cross-departmental work
+ Immense love for contemporary fiction in these categories particularly: book club fiction, women’s fiction, literary fiction, mystery/thriller/crime/suspense
