    Position Summary: To supervise & direct all Protective Service officers’ activity on assigned shift and other shifts as necessary. Ensure safety and security of premises as well as those who work, live and visit St. John’s facilities.

     

    This position is a full-time evening supervisory role (3p-11p)

    Qualifications & Education Required:

    + Three years’ experience in the security field (with one year of supervision preferred). Experience in health care setting preferred. College may be acceptable in lieu of experience.

    + Good communication, reading & writing skills.

    + Basic computer knowledge.

    + Familiarity with N.F.P.A., O.S.H.A., & NYS D.O.H., codes & regulations.

    Position Competencies:

    + High School diploma or GED (A.A.S. in related field preferred).

    + NYS Driver’s license (CDL, Class “C” with passenger endorsement preferred).

    + NYS Security Guard license.

    + NYS Security Guard certification.

    Position Responsibilities:

    + Responsibilities include supervising & directing Protective Services staff at St. John’s Home property conduct routine patrols and respond to any requests for assistance from the Protective Services Department.

    + Responsible for crime & accident prevention.

    + Responsible for training of all departmental staff.

    + Oversee all departmental functions on assigned shift(s).

    + Oversee investigations as necessary or directed by the department manager.

    + Prepare and maintain required reports and records.

    + Ensure fire drills and missing resident drills are conducted as required.

    + Review and file daily reports submitted by protective services officers insuring accuracy, neatness and need for follow up investigation if necessary.

    + Maintain liaison with other department supervisors.

    + Coordinating & controlling all emergency activity until properly relieved.

    + Ensure traffic & parking rules are enforced.

    + Conducting inspections of fire suppression equipment and maintains records of inspections.

    + Perform light maintenance when necessary.

    + Assisting with the development & review of the department Policy & Procedures manual.

    + Ensure officers are current in their NYS security training.

    + May need to be available during off hours to provide minimal staffing requirements.

    + Performs all duties of a Protective Services officer as needed.

    Physical Requirements:

    + Moderate to heavy physical demands. Walking, running, lifting (as much as 50 lbs.), pushing (as much as 250 lbs.), climbing stairs, physical restraint of individuals, visual and auditory acuity. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

     

    Exposure to Conditions: Hazards common to the health care environment (exposure to infections, diseases, various chemicals, etc.). Those hazards common with operating a motor vehicle (weather, etc.). Also, hazards common to anyone responsible for enforcing laws, rules, regulations, and the Protective Services function (aggressive physical and/or verbal behavior by individuals, and those hazards previously mentioned above). Activities will carry the Supervisor to all areas of the facility (inside & outside) as necessary. May be exposed to areas which house active operating machinery.
