Job Description
Insight Global is looking to hire a Mechanical Systems Specialist (CDU/HVAC specific) for one of their clients within the Data Center management space.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of all mechanical systems, including Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs), air-cooled chillers, Pumps, VFDs, Cooling Towers, Packaged Roof Top Units (RTUs), air handling units (AHUs), and fan walls. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep expertise in mechanical systems—particularly with CDU maintenance and operation—advanced troubleshooting skills, and a strong understanding of how to optimize the performance of critical mechanical infrastructure
Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and oversight of the operation and maintenance of all mechanical systems critical to the data center’s functioning and maintaining SLA ranges, including direct experience with Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) maintenance, calibration, and performance optimization.
- Provide guidance to ensure that all mechanical systems are running efficiently, minimizing downtime and ensuring that the systems meet environmental and operational standards.
- Develop best practices and procedures for routine inspection, cleaning, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of CDUs to ensure consistent cooling distribution and system reliability.
- Provide guidance and plans for managing and optimizing the cooling strategies for all data center infrastructure to maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels, ensuring uptime and system efficiency.
- Oversee the monitoring of cooling infrastructure and performance, implementing improvements as necessary to meet capacity and environmental standards.
- Act as the subject matter expert in diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues that may impact data center operations, including HVAC malfunctions, cooling failures, and air quality problems.
- Assist in performing root cause analysis on any mechanical failures and the effort to correct and mitigate future issues.
- Assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all mechanical systems, ensuring they are kept in optimal condition to avoid unplanned outages or failures.
- Develop and implement predictive maintenance tools to monitor system health and schedule repairs or upgrades before failures occur.
- Provide process and policy direction to ensure mechanical systems meet all regulatory, safety, and environmental standards, such as ASHRAE guidelines, local building codes, and OSHA safety requirements.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of mechanical equipment to ensure safety and compliance with all regulations and company policies.
- Maintain detailed records of mechanical system performance, inspections, maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
- Offer technical expertise and guidance in troubleshooting, system design, and operation of mechanical systems to site personnel as needed.
