    We’re Hiring for a Test Engineer!

    The Role:

    The Product Test Engineer designs and implements tests to ensure R&D product development meets expected specifications and functionality. They develop manual or automated test plans, analyze test results, and collaborate with development teams to resolve issues. Products include environmental monitoring/sensing, water quality, or life science biochemistry analysis for YSI in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

     

    We are looking for an individual that has strong engineering academic qualifications with a passion for environmental sciences or has environmental scientist academic qualifications with a passion for bringing new sensing and data logging technologies to market. As a member of R&D, you will be R&D’s “first customer” as we develop next generation products and enhance our existing portfolio.

     

    Works in tandem with Engineers, Chemists and Project Managers. Contributions directly impact the success of all product lines and systems. This role reports directly to the Director, R&D – YSI.

    Responsibilities:

    Planning and Strategy

     

    + Collaborate with team members to identify testing requirements driven from the product specifications such as measurement accuracy, linearity, device power consumption, environmental robustness, data download and IoT connectivity, etc.

    + Develop and implement test plans and strategies

    + Create and maintain test documentation

     

    Test Execution

     

    + Conduct functional, regression, and integration testing for design validation of prototypes or pre-pilot assemblies.

    + Identify and report defects

    + Monitor and track testing progress

    + Test execution is a mix between engineering laboratory testing onsite at YSI or local field deployments of prototype or pre-pilot build units. Such field work consists of short day trips to local rivers or lakes for deployment, service and retrieval of R&D prototype units. These typically consist of battery/power/solar cell replacement, cleaning of products from any freshwater fouling, recalibration or swap of environmental sensors, upload of collected data, and collection of grab samples from each field site. Much less frequent but possible are saltwater deployments in collaboration with Xylem sites or personnel typically if Florida.

     

    Communication & Team Collaboration

     

    + Communicate testing updates and results to team members. Provides issue workarounds or solutions as discovered.

    + Work closely with Engineers, Chemists and Project Managers and Product Management to resolve issues

    + Provide recommendations for improving product quality

    + Foster a positive and productive team environment

    Qualifications:

    + A bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science or a related field

    + 2 years of experience that provides exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.

    + Preferred: 5 years of experience

    + Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    + Advanced technical skills and the ability to work independently on projects.

    + Ability to multi-task effectively.

    + Capable of using computer-based tools to facilitate responsibilities.

    + Poise, good judgment and confidence to represent the Company.

    + Ability to work with a diverse workforce and customer base.

    + Ensures compliance with Company's and regulatory policies and procedures.

    Working Condition:

    + Minimum 8 hours/day

    + 20% field work local to the Yellow Springs / Dayton, Ohio area.

    + <5% field work travel to salt water sites in US.

    + <5% other travel

    + General office environment.
