    Program Director** **,** **Master** **’** **s** **in Development** **Practice

    Role** **Summary:

    TheProgram Directoris responsible forprovidingongoingleadershipand oversightforboththeacademic andadministrativeaspects of theMaster’sin DevelopmentPractice(MDP), a two-year interdisciplinarySTEM-classifieddegree programthat prepares students for careersasglobal and localdevelopment professionals. This role will be responsible foroverseeing thedevelopmentand sustainability ofstrategic partnershipsandinitiativesboth within and outside ofEmory University. This position will alsosuperviseMDPstaffresponsible for various aspects of the programand workingclosely withtheJames T. Laney School of Graduate Studies(LGS)Dean’s Officeand other LGS senior personnel. This position reports to the Vice Provost/Dean ofLGS.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. **_Program Leadership and_** **_Administration_**

    + Providesstrategicleadership and technical direction to theprogram;

    + Supervises, mentors,coaches, andadvocates for the success of MDPstudents,faculty,andstaff;

    + Works to cultivate a culture of inclusive excellence so that all students, faculty, and stafffeelvalued;

    + Ensures rigorous andequitableadmission process, including parameters for scholarshipawards;

    + Identifiesand pursues opportunities toleverageexternalfunding fortheprogram andstudents;

    + Overseesmanagement of funds for the overall programoperation;

    + Participates in and contributes to university initiatives, committees, meetings, and events to build and solidify institutional relationshipsand alignmentbetween MDP and other MDP-adjacentunits;

    + Builds and fosters connections with units across campusand withexternal constituencies and communitiesto advancethe program’smission andvisibility;

    + Reviews, contributes to, and approves annual reports, learning outcome assessments, andcompilation ofother documents and databases requested by LGS andEmory;

    + Promotes and fosters transparent and trust-building communication between university leadership andmembers of theMDPcommunity;

    + Ensures compliance with university policies, procedures, and processes, consulting others asneeded;

    + Performs related responsibilities asrequired.

    1. **_Teaching and Student Support_**

    + Ensures that the MDP curriculum is both academically rigorous and responsive to the changing professional landscape of developmentpractice;

    + May teach or co-teach MDP courses or supervise independent student research andcourses;

    + Supports other Emory graduate programsthrough service on committees and studentadvising;

    + Oversees placement process for internships and field practicums to ensureoptimalfit between students’ interests and skills and host organizations’needs;

    + Provides oversightand consultation related to mentoring, advising, and supportingstudents and alumni’s careeradvancement;

    + Buildslinkageswith potential employers and contributes to alumni relations.

    1. **_Research_** **_and_** **_Scholarly_** **_Engagement_**

    + Implementsresearch that bridges disciplines and integrates science,policyandpractice;

    + Produces scholarly articles and other publications relevant to sustainabledevelopment;

    + Representsthe MDP program and Emory University atrelevantnational and internationalconferences;

    + Engages in scholarly activities that promote Emory’s standing, such as serving on scientific committees, editorial boards, conducting peer reviews,orprovidingexpertiseto agenciesas relevant.

    **Minimum Qualifications** :

    + Ph.D. orequivalent terminaldegreerequired;

    + 10-12years of experience inglobal/community development or in a relevant sector.

    Preferred Qualifications** **:

    + 15 years of experience in global/community development or in a relevantsector;

    + Understanding of current landscape of foreign aid and development practice, asdemonstratedby thought leadership, research, andadvocacy;

    + Experience inacademicleadership,strategic planning, program designand implementation, and faculty/staffdevelopment, particularly in an academicsetting;

    + Proven ability to build partnerships and collaborate acrossinstitutions, sectors, anddisciplines;

    + Outstanding communication skills, including effective writing and public speaking.
