    Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description

     

    As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and revision of components or systems to meet customer expectations for performance, quality, cost, and delivery. This position involves both the generalized design of machinery and the specialized design of components, systems, and attachments. You will interview with the New Vehicle Development Group.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop drawings, design parts, specify components, route systems (hydraulic/electrical), and create assemblies using 3D CAD and ISO Standards.

    + Communicate effectively by drafting clear and concise memos, including technical documentation such as Parts and Service News, Operation Manuals, and Shop Manuals.

    + Discuss, negotiate, and resolve specification issues with manufacturing and suppliers during prototype development and pre-series production.

    + Conduct design reviews to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets established for the project and present design concepts and progress.

    + Utilize continuous improvement techniques to enhance quality, reduce cost, and decrease lead time.

    + Maintain effective engineering change control by preparing and processing Engineering Release Letters and releasing drawings using software like GDMS and SAP.

    + Collaborate with other groups and suppliers to exchange technical information and policies.

    + Support production, service, and QA departments by resolving problems, determining root cause, and planning countermeasures based on engineering disciplines.

    + Recognize and document new technologies and submit them for potential patent applications.

    + Travel domestically and internationally to machine worksites for surveys, problem investigations, application understanding, and countermeasure evaluations.

    Essential Skills

    + Mechanical and electrical design proficiency, particularly with hoses, tubes, brackets, and light fabrication structures.

    + Experience with 3D design and Creo software.

    + New product development capabilities.

    + BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent) with approximately 3–5 years of experience. An Associate's degree may be considered if accompanied by sufficient experience.

    + Proficiency in engineering principles including structural mechanics, hydraulics, heat transfer, electricity, ergonomics, and 3D CAD and data management.

    + Proficiency in software applications such as Pro Engineer Wildfire 2.0 or 4.0, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

    + Knowledge of engineering standards in drawing practices, dimensioning, tolerancing, and welding practices.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Windchill experience is a plus.

    + Understanding of ISO standards and SAE standards.

    + Capability to achieve proficiency with company-specific standards within a reasonable time if hired from another company.

    Work Environment

    The work environment involves using various software applications, including 3D CAD tools and data management systems. The role may require domestic and international travel to worksites for hands-on involvement. This position supports a collaborative setting where interfacing with multiple departments and suppliers is essential.

    This is a Contract position based out of Peoria, Illinois.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $45.00/hr.
