    Position Summary/Description:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

This is an opportunity to join a high-impact team in a growing and exciting entrepreneurial initiative at a well-established and respected institution. The UNC School of Government (‘ SOG ’ and ‘the School’) works to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that helps public officials and citizens (‘clients’) understand and improve state and local government. As the largest university-based local government training, advisory, and research organization in the United States, the School offers up to 200 courses, webinars, and specialized conferences for more than 12,000 public officials each year. Faculty members annually publish approximately 50 books, manuals, reports, articles, bulletins, and other print and online content related to state and local government. The School is also home to a nationally ranked graduate program in public administration and specialized centers focused on information technology and environmental finance.

The Assistant Director of ncIMPACT will work closely with the Executive Director to lead and manage the initiative’s programs, projects, and initiatives, ensuring the successful delivery of public service outcomes. This role is responsible for operational and financial oversight, strategic planning support, business development, and organizational communications. Key responsibilities include:

    - Lead planning, execution, and oversight of ncIMPACT programs, events and projects, developing timelines, deliverables, and coordinating responsibilities for staff and students.

    - Monitor and project expenditures against available funds, draft budgets for funded proposals, and oversee ncIMPACT’s $2 million and growing budget.

    - Track and report project expenditures, activities, and outcomes, preparing financial and progress reports for internal leadership and external partners.

    - Ensure compliance with all grant and sponsor requirements, including spending limits, allowable costs, and documentation standards, and coordinate proposal submissions with ncIMPACT staff and the SOG Finance Office.

    - Liaise with external partners and stakeholders to support project implementation and organizational objectives.

    - Maintain internal administrative and financial documentation for all projects, including processes related to adjuncts, independent contractors, and partner organizations.

    - Contribute to strategic planning, business development discussions, and organizational communications as needed.

Familiarity with public policy issues that are central to ncIMPACT’s work, such as those mentioned above (health, education, economic development, public finance, and the environment)

Experience with Tableau or similar visualization software

    Essential Skills:

This position requires the successful candidate to be a self-starter, consummate team player, excellent communicator, and have the willingness to be a key player in assuring the financial sustainability of ncIMPACT. Other essential qualifications are:

Previous experience with project or program management, event planning, or related experience.
