    Job Description

    Insight Global is looking for skilled and motivated individuals to join our team as Bus and Rail Mechanic Technicians. This is a great opportunity for those with strong mechanical abilities who are passionate about public service and seeking a long-term career. You will be responsible for performing diagnostics, repair, and preventative maintenance on buses, cars, trucks, and train equipment. You will also remanufacture and rebuild components to the manufacturers’ specifications: fabrication/machine/design parts as needed as well as painting and welding services. This position will require the flexibility to work days, nights, evenings, holidays, and weekends.

    Responsibilities:

    • Diagnose and repair door and pneumatic systems.

    • Maintain and repair HVAC and onboard communication systems.

    • Perform repairs on both the interior and exterior of transit vehicles.

    • Operate specialized equipment including Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs), hi-rail, and re-rail tools.

    • Use machinery such as wheel truing machines, axle presses, and brake lathes.

    • Interpret schematics, blueprints, and electrical/electronic chart recordings.

    • Enter and update project status using various computer systems and communication platforms.

    • Attend safety and training sessions; actively participate in emergency preparedness drills.

    • Execute electrification and distribution lockout procedures in accordance with safety protocols.

    • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair propulsion systems including battery-electric, electric, and internal combustion engines.

    • Inspect, diagnose, repair, replace, and rebuild electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components.

    • Respond to and perform service calls as needed.

    • Weld, fabricate, and cut materials such as metal and wood.

    • Clean work areas, vehicles, and equipment using power sweepers, pressure washers, and cleaning agents.

    • Perform general shop duties including fueling, cleaning, sweeping, directing traffic, emptying trash, and refilling windshield washer stations.

    • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as required.

    • Carry out additional duties as assigned or deemed necessary.

    Skills and Requirements

    • High School Diploma/GED and 1+ years of experience in vehicle troubleshooting/repair experience in the last 10 years or:

     

    o Related associate degree or two (2) year college or vocational school program.

     

    • Valid Drivers License with acceptable driving record.

     

    o Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within a six-month period. (At their own cost)

     

    • Experience driving buses, heavy-duty trucks, and other heavy-duty equipment.

    • Ability to pass physical, drug test, and background check.

     

    o Our client considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation. • Overtime Pay Opportunities: 1.5x per hour.

     

    • Pay Increase August 1, 2025, that will bring the wages up by 3% to and pay progression annually meaning that year 0 a person is a 90% of top pay, after year 1, 95% and after year 2, 100%.

    • $1,500 initial tool allowance is given upon completion of probation, with $650 annually for ongoing equipment/tool needs.
