    Responsibilities:

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Sr Public Health Project Specialist organizes, coordinates and supports all work to be done in completion of the “Reducing Maternal Mortality: Informing Targeted Universal Interventions” grant through the Monroe County Mothers and Babies Health Survey 3.0 funded by ARPA through the Monroe County Department of Public Health. The specialist will assure the day-to-day operations of the project and will be responsible for meeting project goals and supervising the students to oversee the survey distribution and work with the MCDPH to develop and populate a birthing mothers database. This work is done in collaboration with the Primary Investigator, Theresa Green PhD, MBA, Associate Professor in the Public Health Sciences Department.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Planning and coordination of the efforts for interventions identified in the grant proposal.

    + This may involve researching best-practices and evidence-based interventions, attending community meetings and forums, meeting with hospital and community leaders to assure implementation, and evaluation of the outcomes for quality improvement.

    + Coordinate the progress on implementation, track and evaluate the projects, note barriers and successes to the team.

    + Complete all required forms and reports required for the grant.

    + Oversight of the data collection and coordination process in collaboration with the Monroe County Department of Public Health.

    + All birthing mothers in Monroe County will be entered into a database and given a unique number so that identifying information can be held in confidence.

    + The database will be managed by an epidemiology student and a data scientist under the direction of the Specialist to track survey completion and to connect with birth certificate data.

    + Oversight of master and graduate students for the original mailing, and survey distribution and collection.

    + The Specialist will oversee the creation and mailing of the original packet of resources and survey link to new families.

    + Under the Specialist’s guidance, students will follow up to assure the maximum number of surveys are completed.

    + The Specialist will organize and deliver community sharing sessions where results of the survey responses are shared with community members for reaction and validation.

     

    Other duties as assigned by the Primary Investigator

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in appropriate health, social science, public health, or closely related field. Required

    + Master’s degree Preferred

    + 3 years of related community and/or health experience

    + Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    + Experience with community-based projects or research, project and team management. Required

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Required

    + Solid computer skills with knowledge of word processing, database utilities, internet navigation, email, and database software. Required

    + Competencies and observable behaviors include problem-solving (analyzing communication flow and level of progress/cooperation) and a high degree of professionalism (quick responses to customer needs, rapid follow-through, punctuality, etc.) Required

    + Must have independent transportation to various community-based agencies in and around Rochester, NY. Required
