    About Us

The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability (SDSS) strives to create a future when humans and nature thrive in concert and in perpetuity. The school is made up of a three-part structure to drive global impact: Our academic departments and programs educate students and create new knowledge across areas of research that are crucial for advancing the long-term prosperity of the planet and people; Institutes bridge scholarship at Stanford and beyond, bringing multiple viewpoints to bear on urgent challenges; the Sustainability Accelerator drives new policy and technology solutions through a worldwide network of partners who work with our teams to develop solutions at a global scale. The school is dedicated to creating and supporting a community with the richness of experience and background needed to generate solutions that benefit all people, particularly those most affected by environmental damage and climate change.

SDSS wants to inspire our students to pursue careers in sustainability, a field that is growing and penetrating a wide array of professions in business, non-profits, and government service. The school seeks a seasoned professional to help us build a new career center focused on building career pathways in sustainability. The center will be the locus for internship programs, as well as building partnerships globally to expand sustainability career pathways. While the center is in start-up mode, the position will report to the Senior Associate Dean, Finance and Administration. The Director will work in partnership with External Relations to build client relationships and will work with a myriad of campus services and academic units to connect with students.

    Your responsibilities include:

+ Provide leadership for a new career center and lead staff who provide internship programming, recruiting and advising services. Develop a strategic plan that can serve all students in the school and is accessible to all Stanford University students interested in a sustainability career.

+ Responsible for fiscal planning and management, including all operations and staffing matters for the career center. Develop a staffing plan for the center that supports both clients and students.

+ Monitor, analyze, and evaluate current scope of services offered by the center and plan, implement, and direct innovative programs in coordination with student services and academic programming in the Dean’s office.

+ Develop new contacts with external organizations for the purpose of expanding internship and employment opportunities for students and alumni. Serve as an adviser and interface with representatives of business, non-profits, and government employers to assist in the most effective use of the center’s services and programs.

+ Develop and supervise the on-campus recruitment and interviewing processes as well as job and internship database and resources for current students as well as alumni. Develop strategies to engage the job market based on informed metrics generated through workforce research.

+ Closely coordinate communication with senior leaders, department chairs, and other faculty to ensure that the center is meeting the needs of the academic units. Serve as the primary liaison between SDSS, its students and alumni, and potential employers on a state, regional, national, and global scale. Collaborate with External Relations to leverage Stanford donors and alumni.

+ Liaison with campus leaders in career services to align and leverage efforts for all Stanford students and alumni.
