    Fall 2026 marks an exciting opening for a visionary scholar in the Department of Sociology, Human Services, and Crime Studies at the State University of New York at Oneonta as an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. Expectations include, but are not limited to teaching, research, student advisement, service, and continuing professional development.

     

    The Department of Sociology, Human Services, and Crime Studies is home to majors in Sociology and Criminal Justice, with Sociology offering concentrations in Aging Studies, Community Development and Planning, Criminology and Deviance, and Human Services. Building on this strong foundation, the Department is also developing graduate programs. With twelve collegial faculty members who are deeply engaged as teachers, scholars, and mentors, the Department fosters a dynamic and supportive learning environment. The Department is also a part of the School of Sciences, which consists of 10 academic departments and 1,800 students majoring in 20 programs.

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    + Teach courses in the Criminal Justice major and other courses to meet department needs.

    + Conduct independent or collaborative research.

    + Provide service to the department and university.

    + Contribute to fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in curriculum and on campus.

    Job Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, or a related discipline. ABD considered; degree conferral by the issuing institution by start of employment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Subject area expertise in one or more of the following:

    + Gender and Sexuality

    + Family and/or Violence in Relationships

    + Policing or Law Enforcement

    + Community Justice

    + Professional experience in one or more of the following:

    + Effective undergraduate teaching

    + Effective teaching of graduate and online courses

    + Applying qualitative and quantitative research methods

    + Working with diverse populations and/or pedagogies
