What we want
The Postdoctoral Research Associate participates in a research lab focused on understanding the impact of ischemic stroke on acute and long-term changes in behavior and brain pathology. Major techniques of the laboratory include rodent surgeries, behavioral analysis, viral gene targeting strategies (in vitro and in vivo), immunohistochemistry, fluorescence & confocal microscopy, flow cytometry. Leads a project focused on defining how an epigenetic modifier impact stroke recovery in aging.

Salary: $4,166.67 monthly

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
+ Appropriate PhD in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
+ PhD. in Neurobiology, Psychology, or related fields.
+ Experience working with small animal models of neurological disease or trauma, stereotaxic surgery, behavior.
+ Experience in bioinformatics (transcriptomics/proteomics).
+ Fluorescent and confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, familiarity with cell culture.
+ Candidates should have excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
+ Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities
Research
+ Utilizes knowledge and skills granted to them by their education and expertise to complete research projects in their field of expertise.
+ Assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite.
+ Analyzes research data and summarizes results.
+ Writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications
Lab Specific
+ Performs rat surgeries including stroke surgeries and stereotaxic injections
+ Performs behavioral assessments of motor and sensory function and cognitive function in rats.
+ Performs brain histology and microscopy
+ Isolates and cultures rodent cells and performs flow cytometry.
+ Collects, records, and maintains experimental/research data; prepare manuscripts for publication of research results
+ Supervises undergraduate research assistants.
Mentoring
+ May assist, mentor, and/or supervise student researchers and/or graduate students who are working on research related to the project
Presentations
+ Prepares presentation materials on research topic that may be presented to small and/or large groups.
+ Actively participates in the preparation of required technical progress reports to research sponsors.
