T hese two positions are part of major new investments in journalism research and education at Texas A&M University. The Department of Communication & Journalism launched its Journalism & Media Practices division in 2023, enrolling students in new BA and BS journalism degrees. The program currently includes ten career journalism and media professionals who are building a strong curriculum designed to place students on successful career tracks in news and media industries. The department is excited to expand its research profile by inviting energetic scholars to play a central role in shaping the division’s intellectual direction, mentoring students, and advancing innovative research in journalism. With this professional foundation in place, the department is now expanding its research infrastructure and seeking midcareer and senior scholars to play a central role in shaping the division’s intellectual direction, mentoring students, and advancing innovative research in journalism. We especially encourage applications from midcareer scholars eager to exercise intellectual leadership early in influencing the growth of a nationally recognized journalism research program, as well as from senior scholars who seek to expand their impact on the field by advancing the research mission of a major land-grant university with national reach.

We welcome scholars whose work engages urgent contemporary challenges in journalism, including but not limited to digital innovation, misinformation, data journalism, media ethics, AI and journalism, political communication, and journalism’s role in diverse and polarized societies. We encourage applicants whose research builds bridges between journalism and related fields such as data science, public affairs, civic communication, technology studies, or cultural studies. Scholars grounded in social scientific and/or humanistic traditions are encouraged to apply, and interdisciplinary approaches that connect journalism to broader societal questions are highly valued.

Candidates will also have opportunities to engage with our growing multimedia infrastructure, including the expansion of the department’s Creative Media Lab and its partnerships with Texas A&M’s 12th Man Productions (ESPN Studio) and KAMU-FM/TV.
