We are seeking an experienced Epic ODB Administrator to manage and support Epic’s Operational Database (ODB) environment, which underpins the core Chronicles database used by Epic applications. This role ensures the availability, performance, scalability, and security of the Epic production database environment across inpatient, ambulatory, revenue cycle, and ancillary modules.
The ideal candidate will have experience administering Epic Chronicles (Intersystems Caché/IRIS), healthcare IT infrastructure, and strong collaboration skills to work closely with Epic Technical Services (TS), system engineers, and Epic application teams.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Support
Install, configure, and maintain Epic ODB environments (Chronicles/Caché/IRIS).
Ensure high availability, performance tuning, and stability of the Epic production database.
Monitor and troubleshoot ODB issues, including transaction performance, indexing, and database locks.
Support backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures for ODB.
Environment Management
Maintain multiple Epic ODB environments (production, test, development).
Support Epic upgrade cycles, release management, and database refreshes.
Manage ODB security, user access, and audit controls.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
Proactively monitor ODB performance metrics and address bottlenecks.
Optimize queries, storage management, and transaction handling within Chronicles.
Partner with Epic TS and infrastructure teams to tune database performance.
Collaboration & Integration
Work closely with Epic Clarity/Caboodle teams to support data extraction processes.
Collaborate with server, storage, and network teams to align ODB infrastructure.
Provide DBA support for Epic projects, migrations, and go-live cutovers.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure database security and compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Maintain documentation of database builds, upgrades, and operational standards.
Participate in audits and respond to regulatory data access requirements.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
Epic ODB/Chronicles Database Administration certification required
Intersystems Caché/IRIS certification strongly preferred.
Experience:
3–5 years of database administration experience in Epic or healthcare IT.
Hands-on experience with Chronicles, Intersystems Caché/IRIS, and Epic ODB environments.
Familiarity with database monitoring, high availability, and backup/recovery strategies.
Skills:
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex database environments.
Ability to manage production-critical systems with high uptime requirements.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (Epic TS, infrastructure, app teams).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with Epic upgrades, new installs, or migration projects.
Experience in Epic Bridges/Interconnect integration support.
Knowledge of scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python, or similar) for DBA tasks.
Familiarity with healthcare data governance and compliance standards.
