Supervisor, Plant Engineering Services

Novant is seeking a hands-on, motivated leader to join our team as a Supervisor of Plant Engineering Services. In this role, you’ll combine your technical expertise with your leadership skills to keep our facilities safe, reliable, and running at their best.

As Supervisor, you will oversee life safety, environment of care, and the overall performance of our physical assets—including buildings, HVAC, mechanical systems, utilities, and grounds. This is a working supervisor position, meaning you’ll not only guide and support our Plant Engineering team but also step in with technical expertise when needed to ensure projects and repairs are completed safely and on time.

You will be a part of an integral team—keeping patients, visitors, and team members safe and comfortable when they need it most.

Qualifications

Education

+ High School Diploma or GED (required)

+ Two-year college degree in a technical science/trade or equivalent work experience (preferred)

Experience

+ 5 years managing and coordinating the activities of technicians involved in maintaining and improving plant facilities and equipment, OR will consider individual with equivalent amount of informal experience leading teams and initiatives within the operations and maintenance environment (required)

+ 10 years ensuring safe and efficient plant operations, including maintenance, repairs, and modifications (required)

+ Experience with plant operations and general maintenance in a healthcare or similar environment (required)

+ Prior healthcare facility maintenance/operations experience (highly preferred)

Licensure/Certification

+ Valid driver’s license (required)

Responsibilities (required)

In this role, you’ll:

+ Lead and mentor a team of technicians, fostering cooperation, adaptability, and innovation

+ Oversee plant operations, maintenance, and repairs to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable performance

+ Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards, including NFPA, OSHA, JCAHO, State and Local AHJ

+ Apply creativity, problem-solving, and independent judgment to manage projects and resolve challenges

+ Manage facility systems, including mechanical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning equipment

+ Interpret and apply knowledge from blueprints, schematics, and technical documents

+ Collaborate effectively with physicians, administration, nursing, and outside agencies to support organizational goals

+ Maintain accurate records, apply basic accounting knowledge, and use data analysis for reporting and decision-making

+ Model perseverance, high energy, and a strong work ethic while setting the tone for team performance

+ Delegate effectively and ensure work is completed on time and to high standards

+ Build strong relationships across all levels and cultures within the organization
