WEI is seeking a highly skilled Lead Draftsman to join our team. This individual will be responsible for producing accurate and detailed shop drawings, field measurements, and documentation that support the restoration and preservation of historic buildings. The Lead Draftsman will work closely with project managers and field teams to ensure all drawings are historically accurate, technically sound, and aligned with client and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Produce precise shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and architectural details for historic restoration projects.
+ Conduct site visits and field measurements of existing conditions; translate those into accurate 2D and 3D drawings.
+ Review and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and historical documents to ensure fidelity to original design intent.
+ Work closely with project managers and fabricators to develop submittals, as-built drawings, and installation details.
+ Maintain drawing standards and ensure consistent documentation across projects.
Qualifications:
+ 5+ years of drafting experience in construction or architectural restoration.
+ Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit, SketchUp, or other 3D modeling tools is a plus.
+ Experience working with historic buildings, materials, and preservation guidelines.
+ Solid understanding of building systems, joinery, millwork, and traditional construction methods.
+ Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
+ Ability to interpret field conditions and translate them into clear, buildable drawings.
+ Familiarity with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties is highly desirable.
+ Associates or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Architecture, Historic Preservation, or related field preferred.
