Jacobs is seeking a motivated Associate Traffic Engineer to join our Florida transportation team. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging professionals to contribute to impactful traffic and multimodal planning projects while developing technical expertise and professional credentials. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers on projects that enhance safety, mobility, and sustainability across Florida communities.
What You’ll Do
* Support traffic impact analyses by compiling data, running LOS analyses in Synchro/HCS, and drafting technical exhibits and memos.
* Assist with multimodal planning tasks including transit, pedestrian, and bicycle data collection, screening-level analysis, and mapping.
* Help set up and QA microsimulation models (e.g., VISSIM) under senior staff guidance; training provided.
* Contribute to signal timing efforts through field data collection, Synchro worksheets, implementation support, and before/after checks.
* Perform field work such as intersection inventories, turning movement count coordination, travel time runs, bus stop/shelter inventories, and parking observations.
* Prepare corridor analysis materials including base mapping, concept layouts, operational checks, and graphics.
* Support IOAR/IMR and PD&E deliverables by assembling datasets, preparing exhibits, and completing assigned sections.
* Follow Jacobs and FDOT QA/QC procedures; document assumptions, inputs, and results clearly.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and occasionally attend client meetings as a note taker or presenter for your task area.
How You’ll Grow
* Receive mentorship from senior traffic engineers and take ownership of structured tasks that scale with your capabilities.
* Gain training on Jacobs workflows, FDOT procedures, and commonly used tools (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, GIS, CAD).
* Follow a clear progression path with support toward PE licensure and expanded technical responsibilities.
This is a hybrid role. Ideally, you will work from a local Jacobs office or the client’s office on average 2 days per week. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
* Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
* Passed FE exam or ability to obtain PE license within 12 months.
* 4+ years of experience (internships and co-ops count).
* Familiarity with Synchro and HCS; exposure to VISSIM or AIMSUM is a plus—training provided.
* Solid Excel skills (e.g., lookups, pivot tables); interest in basic scripting (Python or VBA) is a plus.
* Introductory experience with GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS) and CAD (MicroStation or AutoCAD).
* Strong attention to detail and clear, concise technical writing.
* Valid driver’s license and willingness to perform occasional field work.
* Familiarity with FDOT standards and processes is a plus but not required.
