Scope of Job
The UTRGV School of Medicine seeks a board certified orthopedic surgeon to be a core faculty and serve as Division Chief of the orthopedic surgery division in the Surgery integrated service unit. Leadership experience in academic orthopedic surgery are preferred. Core faculty duties will include direct patient care, scholarly activity, and faculty development. Active participation in the education of undergraduate medical students and graduate medical education programs is required.
Minimum Qualifications
MD degree with Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery (American Board of Orthopedic Surgery) and/or specialty. Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical license and qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Surgery integrated service unit.

Preferred Qualifications
Completion of accredited fellowship. American Board of orthopedic surgery certification. Fellowship training and clinical experience in adult reconstruction/joint replacement is preferred. Clinical scope includes primary total joint replacement, complex/revision total joint replacement, and joint replacement in the ambulatory surgery setting.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
•51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
