    Position Overview

    Under the direction of the Energy Manager, the Utility Energy Services Analyst I will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the utility accounts for Burlington, nationwide. This position will assist in the management of utility bill payment and auditing in support of the company’s $90+ million utility budget. In addition, they will coordinate rebates and incentives, and are responsible for reporting planned and unplanned utility outages nation-wide.

     

    A Day In The Life

    Energy Utility Administration - New Service Establishment

    + Serve as point of contact for all utility account set ups, closings, and relocation utility service transfers. Coordinate with Real Estate, Construction, Facilities, and Lease Administration on all ongoing utility set up issues from application to full ownership.

    + Provide assistance to construction project managers in obtaining new utility meters in Burlington-lead construction projects.

    + Coordinate with the Lease Administration when establishing services that will be billed directly to them vs Burlington Energy team taking possession of the billing, typically via a submeter and controlled by the Landlord.

    + Conduct analysis to minimize utility establishment expense. Ensure correct meter numbers and location information are supplied to billing consolidation vendor, accounts are established as requested, and billing dates for newly established/terminated accounts are accurate.

    + Coordinate the generation of utility bond applications, requirements, reduction applications, and coordinate with internal finance partners.

    + Track and follow up with Construction PM’s and EMS vendors to ensure all new stores and relocations are competitively bid and contracted with one of our EMS vendors.

    Energy Utility Administration - Existing Locations

    + Work within the Engie Insights data platform to conduct analysis, confirm energy use reporting, auditing and reconciliation, benchmarking, and data transfer from bills.

    + Assist with monthly utility bill audits- evaluate consolidations, communicate errors and manage fund recovery with third-party vendor (Engie). Investigate high percent increase or decrease in kWh year over year.

    + Assist with the review and validation of landlord billed utilities.

    + Assist in communication and investigations for all power outages- planned and unplanned events. Coordinate with utilities and Burlington locations to minimize impacts of power outages.

    + Track security deposit balances by location to minimize the company’s risk exposure of uncollectable balances. Assist with process to continually request reduction in bonds and security deposits.

    Utility Rebate Program Support

    + Assist in completion of rebate applications. Coordinate documentation required to qualify for the various Utility rebate programs nationwide and substantiate requested funds.

    + Assist in the coordination and data sharing between rebate vendor and various utility companies.

    + Perform before and after analysis of kW & kWh for projects to validate rebates.

    + Track and report ongoing rebate incentives and assist in financial reporting.

    **Ad Hoc Utility Tasks/Assignments:** Complete various tasks as assigned to support the team in managing all Utility needs of the Company including:

    + Provide analytical support to the team for all deregulated energy activities.

    + Utility scam alert communications and investigations with the stores.

    + Stormwater, sewer, irrigation and other water charge rightsizing.

     

    Position will interact daily with Stores, Operations, Facilities, Landlord Relations, Lease Administration and outside vendors including utility companies; weekly with Construction, Finance and Supply Chain; and occasionally with Procurement, Legal and Real Estate.

     

    Assists with establishment and termination of utility accounts in the US, including Puerto Rico. This position has an impact on the $90M annual utility expense that is directly billed by utility providers. This position also ensures that stores and offices are supplied with uninterrupted utility service.

    You'll Come With

    + Work experience related to utility, waste & recycling, financial analysis, administrative and/or accounting.

    + Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.

    + Proficiency in MS Office, including basic analytics skills in Excel.

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills

    + The ability to manage 3rd party relationships, including conflict resolution and bill auditing with utilities.

    + Knowledge of utility billing components and processes, utility rates, and structures a plus.

    + Ability to independently manage multiple projects to timely completion
