The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer in the activities of the Project Engineer’s office by leading a team of inspectors engaged in construction inspection, specializing in areas of responsibility in Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, Superpave Asphaltic Concrete Pavement, Structural Concrete operations, Sub-Surface Drainage Systems, and Embankment & Base Course testing and procedures. This position reports directly to the Construction Inspector Supervisor. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform all construction contract administration and related duties with minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR
Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ LEADERSHIP AND INSPECTION OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS: Acts as lead worker by organizing, performing, and training lower level inspectors engaged in data collection, total station surveying, and accumulating and documenting actual field measurements. Provide guidance and training in inspection of certified areas of responsibility in Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, major and minor Structural Concrete, and Superpave Asphaltic Concrete Pavement. Implement materials sampling and density testing procedures used in all phases of construction. Schedules work details for lower level inspectors on projects to ensure proper implementation of the Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges and Supplemental Specifications are being carried out by contractor operations. Reviews work for lower level inspectors for precision and accuracy daily. Collaborates with contractor, subcontractor, utility and local governments’ supervisory personnel to facilitate project construction with minimum obstructions to property owners and the motoring public with emphasis on Safety and compliance with Federal and State DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) goals.
+ INTERPRETATION OF PLANS/SPECIFICATIONS AND DECISION MAKING: Prior to and during construction, review plans and specifications to ensure that the project is progressing in accordance with DOTD standards and that the project goal is met. During construction, resolves plan discrepancies involving actual field conditions.
+ ENGINEERING CALCULATION AND DATA COLLECTION: Performs engineering calculations, data collection, and layout for R/W utility relocation, roadway, and bridge construction. Utilize software to create, analyze, verify template grades, horizontal and vertical alignments and other plan data quantities, and complete daily work reports and log field measured quantities for construction projects.
+ May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

Compensation:Additional $2.00/HR Premium Pay For Every Hour Worked
