    Job Summary

    The Engineering Advising Center (EAC) provides academic advising services to first-year and undeclared College of Engineering (CoE) undergraduate students and oversees several College-wide programs (1st Gen Engin, Michigan Engineering Transfer Support, CoE Peer Mentor Program). The EAC's mission is to empower new undergraduate students to take ownership of their academic and personal development, connect with resources and opportunities, and transition into the Michigan Engineering community. Our team of professional staff and peer advisors works with faculty, staff, and students across the College and University to help CoE students get off to a strong start.

     

    As an Academic Advisor, you will be the primary advisor for a cohort of first-year and undeclared CoE students. In addition to individual and group advising, you may coordinate one or more EAC-affiliated programs, plan events, participate in assessment and evaluation, build relationships with campus partners, and contribute to EAC strategic initiatives. We are looking for candidates with a creative and collaborative spirit and a deep commitment to supporting students, particularly those from underserved groups.     Responsibilities*

    + Advise first-year and undeclared students with in-person/phone/video appointments and email on topics such as course selection and registration, major/career exploration, degree requirements, experiential learning opportunities, academic success strategies, University and College policies, and academic and personal resources

    + Use advising technology to schedule appointments, review transcripts/degree audits/early warning grades, and record advising notes.

    + Track the progress of specific populations (e.g., students on probation) and provide proactive advising

    + Keep up to date with relevant advising practice and research

    + Coordinate all aspects of one or more EAC programs or strategic initiatives

    + Recruit, train, and supervise student staff

    + Design, promote, and implement program-related events

    + Assist the EAC team with planning and executing large and small events

    + Present degree requirements and support resource information to students at orientation

    + May occasionally require work during nights and weekends

    Required Qualifications*

    + Academic Advisor Intermediate: Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of related advising or student affairs experience

    + Academic Advisor Associate: Bachelor's Degree and related advising or student affairs experience

    + Experience using strong interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills

    + Demonstrated commitment to student success and wellness.

    + Ability to occasionally work irregular hours (evenings and weekends).

     

    Modes of Work

     

    This is a hybrid position and can work remotely several days per week. Office space is shared with advisors alternating in-person and remote days.

     

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.     Underfill Statement

     

    Depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate, this position may be filled at the Intermediate or Associate level.

     

    + Associate level salary range: $50,000 - $54,000

    + Intermediate level salary range: $56,000 - $65,000

     

    Union Affiliation

     

    This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the University Staff United (USU), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

     

    Background Screening

     

    The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
