    Summary:

    At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products. This team focuses on developing display and optics technologies for Meta products, creating see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. The role involves designing architecture and display sub-systems for wearable devices, developing and implementing test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support transparent display systems.We're seeking an experienced Engineer focused on Optical Engineering to join our Reality Labs team, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of these systems. As a key member of our team, you'll explore innovative architectures and design spaces for wearable systems, develop and analyze system components, and drive detailed system-level analysis. In this role, you will be part of a team where you will consistently switch between high-level thinking and meticulous attention to detail to mature our architectures and designs.

    Required Skills:

    Optical Systems Engineer Responsibilities:

    1. Explore architectures and design spaces for optical systems through design and prototyping using novel and conventional techniques and components

    2. Develop and analyze system and subsystem components that are specified to meet the needs of advanced AR products

    3. Perform detailed system level analysis (i.e. optical modeling, tolerancing, and estimating size, weight, power to predict system performance etc.)

    4. Contribute to the process of design releases, prototyping and creation of related documentation

    5. Collaborate with internal teams for adoption of mature technologies

    Minimum Qualifications:

    6. Bachelors or Masters degree in the field of Optics, Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences or a similar field, and/or equivalent work experience

    7. 2+ years of experience in applied research and/or product development

    8. 2+ years of experience with optical systems or similar

    9. Experience maturing optical systems from proof-of-concept to early low volume prototype or production

    10. Experience in scripting and/or system optimization and analysis tools

    11. Knowledge of optical design, modeling methods, and tools for imaging and illumination systems as well as tolerance analysis

    12. Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional environment

    Preferred Qualifications:

    13. PhD in the field of Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related degree

    14. 4+ years of experience in research or advanced optics development

    15. Experience with multiple full life cycle product launches

    16. Experience with 3D tracking methods, algorithms, devices and systems

    17. Experience with design/manufacturing of small form-factor sensing or imaging systems

    18. Process development experience for optical parts, sensors, computer vision, software and hardware integration

    19. Experience developing manufacturing process(es) for coatings, molding, replication, diamond-turning

    20. Rapid prototyping experience (i.e. 3D printing, laser cutting, etc.)

    21. Experience in opto-mechanical integration and system design

    22. Experience in optical lens characterization and metrology for optics, cosmetics,

    23. and mechanical properties

    24. Experience in sequential ray tracing, optical simulation and tolerancing using ZEMAX, Code V, FRED… ect

    25. Experience with compliances and product regulatory processes for ophthalmics, such as FDA, ANSI or ISO

    Public Compensation:

    $111,000/year to $164,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
