Glimpse of the Job
The Library Specialist I will be responsible for assisting the Coordinator of Collections Care and Cushing curators with caring for the collections in the Cushing Memorial Library and Archives. The selected candidate will assist with rehousing collection materials, collection accountability, space planning/shifting projects and stacks/workroom maintenance.
Opportunities to Contribute:
+ Assist with space planning and collection shifting projects to accommodate growth in Cushing and our remote storage facility.
+ Perform collection shifting projects.
+ Assist with Cushing’s A-Z reorganization project.
+ Assist with routine collections care alongside curators and archivists.
+ Coordinate weekly transfer of materials to Preservation and completed preservation work’s return to Cushing.
+ Rehouse collection materials using preservation standards.
+ Monitor processing supplies and report what replacement supplies need to be ordered.
+ Assist with the accountability for collection materials and shelving collection materials.
+ Track mis-shelved items and refer problems to appropriate staff members.
+ Update existing records as needed in Cushing’s collection database AtoM.
+ Assist with Cushing exhibit preparation and maintenance.
+ Assist with collection stacks and workroom maintenance.
+ Check for proper shelving of Cushing collections materials.
+ Monitor library cart spaces and report and address threats to materials.
+ Collaborate with Cushing and Preservation employees to provide the best service possible to donors and library users.
+ Participate in special events, unit meetings, and training as needed.
Salary: $15.85 per hour
Special note: May use a vehicle for collection movement.
Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ One year of related library or office experience.
+ Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
+ Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.
+ Ability to work in temperatures that range between 64-67 degrees.
+ A well-qualified candidate may also possess:
+ Prior experience in an academic library.
+ Valid vehicle operator’s license and good driving record. May operate a motor vehicle for collection movement.
+ Experience with special collections.
+ Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
+ Knowledge of email, word processing, spreadsheet applications, and database searches.
+ Good interpersonal skills.
+ Reliable attendance.
+ Excellent communication and attention to detail.
