    The Department of ISCI Laboratory Operations is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 2 to work in Miami. The Research Associate 2, SOM assumes responsibility for the design and performance of research focused on the development of novel experimental therapies for human malignancies. The incumbent contributes to collaborations with scientists within the University of Miami or elsewhere. Moreover, this individual works as part of a team and assists with the maintenance of laboratory equipment, protocols, and supplies.

    CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

    1. Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies.

    2. Participates in the publication of significant research results.

    3. Advances expertise through education, training, and research.

    4. Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate.

    5. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures.

    6. Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments.

    7. Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment.

    8. Performs calculations to complete research test results.

    9. Performs photography and dark room processing.

    10. Participates in training sessions and workshops.

    11. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field requiredExperience:Minimum 2 years lab experience, 3 years preferred along with experience using Workday, Office 365 Suite

    Department Specific Functions

    + This position centers on cell manufacturing within the GMP cleanroom environment, supported by comprehensive testing, analytical procedures, and related research studies.

    + An annual eye examination, including a Color Vision test (Ishihara), is required to ensure visual acuity and color discrimination are essential for laboratory tasks.

    + Participates in daily operations and performs procedures related to new and on-going research projects.

    + Performs and assists other research staff with standard laboratory techniques.

    + Develops, adapts, and implements new laboratory procedures.

    + Records, organizes, and writes up experimental results for submission of manuscripts and for scientific presentations.

    + Keeps abreast of latest literature in the field and searches for references to technical problems.

    + Prepare experimental materials using laboratory protocols and safety guidelines

    + Assist with analysis of experiments

    + Basic knowledge of immune surface markers for cell characterization is preferred

    + Experience in Flow Cytometry and Flow software preferred.

    + Experience in ELISA protocols preferred.
