Job Title: Structural Steel Welder

Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and skilled welders to join our fabrication and install team. You will work with one of the area's largest steel fabrication shops, contributing to large commercial construction projects, multi-million dollar homes, and specialty design-build steel projects. This role requires precision welding and metalworking skills, along with the physical ability to erect steel frameworks in the field. A strong technical knowledge in steel welding, safety awareness, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints are essential.

Responsibilities

+ Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to shape and assemble steel components using tools such as saws, torches, grinders, and welding equipment.

+ Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on structural steel components.

+ Inspect welds and fabricated parts for quality and compliance with standards.

+ Assemble and install steel structures on-site, including beams, columns, trusses, and braces.

+ Instruct crane operators and set hoists and rigging equipment to position steel components.

+ Bolt or weld steel parts together according to plans and safety protocols.

+ Work at heights and in various weather conditions while maintaining safety standards.

+ Follow OSHA and company safety guidelines at all times.

+ Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure safe handling of tools and materials.

+ Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of equipment.

Essential Skills

+ Over 1 year of experience in structural steel welding or related fields such as production welding, manufacturing welding, heavy equipment repair, and welding fabrication shop experience.

+ Proficiency in welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick).

+ Ability to read a tape measure to the 1/16th of an inch.

+ Experience with steel fabrication tools.

+ Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

+ Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy materials and work at heights.

+ Knowledge of construction site safety practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Certification in welding (e.g., AWS) is often preferred or required.

+ OSHA 10 Certification.

+ AWSD1.1 Certification - American Welding Society's Structural Welding Code for Steel.

Work Environment

This position involves a combination of shop (fabrication) and field (erection) work, with exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and outdoor elements. Candidates must be prepared to work in all weather conditions as the shop is not climate-controlled. Field hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and shop hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:45 pm. Overtime may be required during the weekdays and occasionally on weekends. The team consists of 14 members reporting to the production supervisor.

This is a to hire position based out of Gansevoort, New York.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $28.00/hr.
