    Job Title: Phlebotomist III Job Description

     

    The primary role of a Phlebotomist III is to assist in executing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position is based in Baytown and involves ensuring accurate and efficient specimen collection and processing.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.

    + Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

    + Decontaminate and update patient information as necessary.

    + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

    + Explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Interpret and understand all physicians' orders.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

    + Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts accurately.

    + Package specimens properly for transport.

    + Store specimen samples according to required temperature and follow protocol to maintain specimen integrity.

    + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

    + Attend annual department training sessions.

    + Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficient in phlebotomy, collection, blood draw, venipuncture, and specimen collection.

    + Capillary puncture skills.

    + Valid Phlebotomist certification for the state of employment.

    + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + 0-2 years of relevant experience.

    Work Environment

    This is a float position with Baytown as the home base. The role involves floating to various locations, including Lake City, Texas City, Clear Lake, and Baytown.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract position based out of Baytown, Texas.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $26.00/hr.
