Job Title: R&D Engineer Job Description
This mechanical role focuses on applying Design for Excellence (DFX) principles, such as Design for Manufacturability (DFM), early in the product development process. The goal is to reduce manufacturing costs, improve quality, and streamline production. The engineer will collaborate with contract manufacturers to create scalable processes and systems that enhance production volumes while maintaining quality and controlling expenses. The position also involves participating in new product development projects to establish high-quality mechanical designs, rapid prototype development, and verification testing.
Responsibilities
+ Apply Design for Excellence (DFX) principles to optimize product designs for manufacturing.
+ Collaborate with contract manufacturers to implement scalable and adaptable processes.
+ Develop mechanical designs for new product development and enhancements with a focus on manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
+ Utilize rapid prototyping tools to build and test preliminary design concepts.
+ Conduct risk management documentation, including hazard analysis and FMEA/FMECA.
+ Lead root cause analysis for product failures and test anomalies using structured approaches.
+ Interface with manufacturing, production, supply chain, quality, regulatory, and other engineering teams.
Essential Skills
+ Experience with medical device design and Design for Excellence (DFX) principles.
+ Proficiency in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and cost optimization.
+ Strong background in design control and prototype development.
+ Expertise in conducting root cause analysis and FMEA/FMECA.
+ Ability to develop mechanical designs and work with CAD tools like SolidWorks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with CNC Machining and 3D Printing.
+ Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools and processes.
Work Environment
The work environment involves interfacing across multiple departments, including manufacturing, production, supply chain, quality, and regulatory teams. Engineers will work with advanced technologies and tools, such as CAD, CNC machining, and 3D printing, to develop and test mechanical designs.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Sunnyvale, California.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $126000.00 - $220200.00/yr.
