    Job Title: EMS Driver

     

    Department: Emergency Medical Services

     

    Hours Per Week: Per Diem, as needed all shifts

     

    Schedule: Variable shift/days, weekends, and holidays; 12 hour shifts

    SUMMARY:

    The ambulance operator is responsible to provide high quality emergency transportation to sick and injured patients.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Responds to calls when dispatched

    + Inspect the ambulance before each shift, checking the fuel, oil, transmission fluid, wiper fluid, and coolant, reporting any needed repairs.

    + Check the first aid and medical supplies inventory levels before each shift and ensure the ambulance is well stocked

    + Assist patients onto gurneys and loading them into and out of the ambulance

    + Keep inside and outside of ambulance clean

    + Sanitize the ambulance and safely dispose of any medical waste and soiled linens

    + Administer first aid such as bandaging, splinting, and administering oxygen.

    + Maintain driving log with daily entries and noting patients’ names and addresses, travel times, mileage and service performed

    + Report accident facts to medical personnel and police officers, when necessary

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + High School Diploma or equivalent

    + Clean/Active NYS Drivers License

    + American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certificate (AHA BLS)

    PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

    + Work well under pressure

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    + OSHA Category II: Some risk of exposure to blood/body fluids in the day to day job duties.

    + Individual may be required to work non-standard shifts as needed (weekend, evenings, swing shift, or some combination).

    + Occasional travel by conventional means to other locations as required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

    The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
