Job Description
General Scope of Duties
Join our dynamic library team and play a key role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for our campus community. In this position, you’ll assist with all aspects of circulation and daily library operations, help with the coordination of the course reserve collection, and support the supervision and training of our student desk assistants. You’ll be hands-on with our library system to handle circulation transactions, support faculty and students with course materials, and ensure our spaces remain safe, accessible, and engaging. This role also offers the opportunity to develop leadership skills, collaborate with library colleagues, and take part in the vibrant academic and cultural life of the College.
General Duties and Responsibilities
1. Use the library system to perform all circulation transactions, including checkouts,
returns, material status updates, referrals, holds, and patron account issues.
2. Ensure a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment by answering circulation,
directional and building policy questions; addressing stacks maintenance issues; and
responding to building emergencies or issues.
3. Assist in supervising and training student employees, utilizing onboarding training
materials, learning management platforms and testing protocols; answering questions;
and addressing knowledge gaps.
4. Coordinate activities of the library’s physical course reserve collection, including
materials processing; serving as a primary contact for faculty; collaborating with
Acquisitions and other library staff; creating and maintaining course lists; and addressing
lost or overdue materials.
5. Update and assist Evening/Weekend Circulation Supervisors on course reserve processes
to ensure accurate and efficient processing.
6. Open the library on weekday mornings.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Approve online student timesheets, investigating and correcting discrepancies between
paper and online timesheets as necessary.
2. Assist patrons with operating building technology, such as printers, scanners, and
computers in the Technology Commons, and report issues to the responsible staff or
service point.
3. Prioritize research assistance requests, providing initial assistance or referrals to
librarians as appropriate.
4. Support interlibrary loan services by assisting patrons with creating accounts and placing
requests; process interlibrary loan requests as needed.
Tertiary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Engage in professional development through engagement with the Boston Library
Consortium and other consortial partners, and through online and in-person seminars as
appropriate.
2. As appropriate, participate in the life of the College by attending campus events such as
Library & Information Technology speakers and events, athletic events, gallery openings,
arts performances, student exhibits and other signature experiences.
3. Additional duties as assigned.
Education and Skills
1. Associate’s degree and 1–3 years of library experience, or comparable combination of
education and experience
2. Excellent written and verbal communications skills
3. Ability to build and sustain key relationships with managers, student employees,
colleagues, and faculty members
4. Experience working in a team environment desirable
5. Experience in training and supervising desirable
6. Computer skills including use of an integrated library system, information databases and
standard productivity software
7. Excellent interpersonal skills
8. Must be detail oriented
9. Well-organized, able to work under pressure
10. Knowledge of general office equipment

Salary Range $20.00-$22.00
