    Join the UPMC Shadyside Same Day Surgery Team as a Full-Time RN!

     

    Are you a skilled nurse looking for a dynamic, fast-paced environment with no night shifts or holiday work? UPMC Shadyside's Same Day Surgery Unit is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team full-time (40 hours/week, non-exempt). In this role, you'll provide compassionate care to a diverse surgical patient population-supporting both pre-op and post-op needs across 40-60 cases daily. You'll also have the opportunity to participate in our acute pain team, expanding your clinical impact.

     

    We're looking for candidates with at least 1 year of nursing experience (2 years preferred), including telemetry experience (required) and surgical nursing experience (preferred). BSN is preferred, but we welcome all educational backgrounds. GNs are not accepted for this role.

    Schedule Highlights:

    + Primary shifts: 5:00 AM-3:30 PM

    + Occasional off-shifts: 7:00 AM-5:30 PM or 9:30 AM-8:00 PM (rotated among staff)

    + Weekend call: One Saturday or Sunday every 3 months

    + All UPMC-approved holidays off

    Responsibilities:

    + Patient-Centered CareApplies the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to develop holistic, individualized care plans. Communicates effectively with patients and the care team, ensuring comprehensive documentation and critical thinking in all aspects of care.

    + Professional Development & TeachingPrecepts students and new hires with enthusiasm. Identifies learning opportunities, shares research, and promotes continuous learning through presentations and journal clubs.

    + Quality & InnovationIdentifies and implements improvements in clinical quality and workplace culture. Regularly applies evidence-based practices and leads initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and staff well-being.

    + Workplace Culture & Well-beingBuilds strong, respectful relationships with colleagues. Promotes cultural awareness, addresses workplace challenges, and maintains a healthy work-life balance through prioritization and delegation.

    + System AlignmentPerforms duties in alignment with system-wide competencies and behaviors. Participates in shared governance and hospital-wide councils.

    + Minimum 2 years RN experience required

    + BSN preferred

    + Certification required _unless_ :

    + You hold a Master's in Nursing or DNP, or

    + You hold a BSN and a Master's in a related field

    + Annual completion of 1 professional contribution aligned with department/hospital/system goals (approved by Unit Director via _My Nursing Career Ladder_ )

    + Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluations

    + Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan

    + Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

    + Ability to lead others in applying the nursing process

    + Effective in complex environments with shifting priorities and specialized equipment

    + Strong interpersonal skills to build positive, caring relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams

    + Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning

    Licensure & Certifications

    + Current RN license in the facility's state or via Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)

    + Must apply for in-state licensure within 60 days of residency change

    + CPR (AHA standards) required within 30 days of hire

    + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Act 34 clearance
