BASIC PURPOSE
The Recreation Aide I is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the athletic programs and events in the Parks and Recreation Department.
The Parks and Recreation Department serves the community by providing health, inspiration, and recreation opportunities through quality programming, facilities, and community events. In addition, the department furthers the preservation and enhancement of the environment through planned parks, open spaces and natural habitat areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Provides excellent customer service to all program participants and program visitors.
+ Complies with the City of Lacey work safety standards and procedures.
+ Assists with greeting and directing participants and spectators at sports special events.
+ Maintains recreation equipment in good working order.
+ Under the direction of the Recreation Aide III or Recreation Coordinator, assists with coaching sports for children 3-10 years of age.
QUALIFICATIONS
No prior work experience is required, but desirable.
+ Minimum of 15 1/2 years of age.
+ Must be currently enrolled in high school, or G.E.D. program.
+ Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
+ Must pass a background investigation.
+ Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration and Reform and Control Act.
+ Valid First Aid and CPR certifications or the ability to obtain before the program begins.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

+ Knowledge and interest in sports
Ability to:
+ Demonstrate sports techniques and actively participate in drill activities.
+ Follow oral and written instructions.
+ Work in a team Setting.
+ Learn new ideas and skills.
Part-time positions that work less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for health insurance, other insurances, holidays, vacation, and/or other paid leave benefits provided to regular full-time positions; however, they are covered by Workers' Compensation Insurance. The City will comply with RCW 49.46.210 and WAC's 296-128-600 through 296-128-700 in providing paid sick leave to all covered employees (non-exempt).
Social Security and Federal withholding taxes will be deducted from wages.
*Please note, that Part-time and On-call positions, working less than than an average of 20 hours per week, are not eligible for membership in the Department of Retirement Systems.
