    Who will you be working with?

     

    You will be working with the Freight Car Products and Maintenance of Way senior leadership team as well as all North American operation within FCP & MOW, based out of the Pittsburgh, PA HQ office.

     

    How will you make a difference?

     

    The Environmental, Health and Safety Leader, Freight Car Products and Maintenance of Way will be responsible for the leadership, oversight, and execution of the EHS strategy and programs within the North America Freight Car & MOW sites. This position will provide leadership, support, and technical guidance to leaders and employees within the Business Group, ensure effective development and implementation of EHS programs and initiatives, and coach designated EHS talent within the Business Group to ensure safe and responsible operations at each site locally. The EHS Leader, North America Freight Car & MOW will report directly to the Director of Environment Health & Safety - Components with dotted line reporting to the Group Vice President – FCP & MOW to facilitate strong EHS performance across all Business Group sites.

     

    What do we want to know about you?

     

    + BS in environmental, health, safety or relevant scientific or engineering field.

    + At least 7-10 years’ experience in an EHS programs, operations, or engineering function within Fortune 500 multi-national companies.

    + Experience of applied international EHS compliance management, including regulatory and permitting in US, Canada and Mexico.

    + Knowledge of global EHS legal and regulatory requirements, technical expertise, EHS engineering knowledge, best practices and EHS management systems.

    + Possess tactical and strategic regulatory leadership and direction, as well as work well with limited supervision while being responsible for project management, compliance assurance, risk mitigation, injury prevention and environmental management.

    + Experience prioritizing and managing multiple, technically complex assignments concurrently.

    + Organized, analytical, detail-oriented, problem-solver, project management skills and focus on results.

    + Experience leading and motivating cross-functional teams in a fast-paced and diverse environment.

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along the ability to effectively speak in public and provide presentations to senior management and groups of employees.

    + Strong leadership, coaching skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

    + Proficient with Microsoft Office.

     

    What will your typical day look like?

     

    + Responsible for creating and implementing EHS strategy for the Business Group, including compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement, in alignment with Global Operations EHS priorities.

    + Understand regulatory changes, trends, and forecast impacts for the Business Group.

    + Provide leadership, support, and technical guidance to the management of the Business Group and designated EHS professionals to ensure effective deployment of EHS programs to enable responsible and safe operations worldwide.

    + Actively lead site risk management efforts with development of Risk Reduction Plans, Hazard Heat Maps, Risk Assessments, and supporting Strength of Defense matrices, with support from cross-functional teams.

    + Assist with implementation and validation of the company’s EHS management system to drive focus, ensure compliance, and continuous improvement.

    + Establish and maintain the EHS training program for the Business Group to ensure compliance with Wabtec and Regulatory EHS training requirements.

    + Drive robust incident learning process across the Business Group by reviewing lessons learned and sharing best practices.

    + Support the Global Operations EHS team’s governance/auditing program in coordination with regional EHS network to improve compliance assurance across all sites.

    + Coach, develop, mentor, and inspire designated EHS professionals within the Business Group to develop and improve skills and expertise across the Freight Components organization.

    + Provide additional subject matter expertise (e.g., environmental, IH, safety, etc.) and/or regional support to Global Operations EHS organization, as needed.

     

    What about the physical demands of the job?

     

    + Sitting or standing for extended periods of time at a desk in an office environment

    + Walking the shop floor and being exposed to loud noises, dust, heat, and uneven surfaces

    + Must be willing and able to wear required PPE when entering manufacturing spaces

    + Frequent travel, up to 50% of the time can be expected with this role

    Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

     

    $89,100.00-$126,900.00

     

    The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com . Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
