    Surgical Technologist – Part Time, Day Shift (24 hrs/week)

    **Location:** Baystate Franklin Medical Center – Greenfield, MA

    **Schedule:** Day Shift | 24 hours/week | Variable 8-hour shifts | Rotating weekends & holidays

     

    Sign-On Bonus: $3,000

    Position Summary

    As a **Surgical Technologist** at BFMC, you’ll be a vital member of our skilled surgical team, working alongside surgeons and clinical staff to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality surgical care. You will be responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling surgical instruments, and supporting the surgical team throughout procedures.

     

    This **part-time** role includes **24 hours per week** on the **day shift** , with **variable 8-hour shifts** and participation in **rotating weekends and holiday coverage** .

    Baystate Health offers a defined **Surgical Technologist Career Ladder** based on experience, education, and certification:

    Surgical Technologist I

    + Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or CAAHEP-accredited training

    + AST certification*

    + BLS certification (American Heart Association)*AST certification required unless exempted by prior experience before July 1, 2013

    Surgical Technologist II

    + Meets Surg Tech I requirements

    + Minimum 2 years of experience as a surgical technologist

    + At least 1 year at Baystate OR 2 years of comparable external experience

    + Completion of orientation competencies

    Surgical Technologist III

    + Meets Surg Tech I requirements

    + Minimum 4 years of surgical technologist experience

    + At least 1 year of employment at Baystate

     

    _Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered._

    Key Responsibilities

    + Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are safe, clean, and functioning properly

    + Collaborate as a core member of the surgical team

    + Handle and administer medications in the sterile field according to policy

    + Maintain a sterile and safe surgical environment

    + Support accurate specimen collection and labeling

    + Anticipate surgical needs based on procedures and care plans

    + Participate in ongoing safety and quality improvement initiatives

    + Demonstrate effective communication and adherence to infection control standards

    Qualifications

    Required:

    + Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program

    + AST certification (or ability to obtain, if required)

    + BLS certification (American Heart Association)

    Preferred:

    + Previous surgical technologist experience in a hospital or ambulatory setting

    + Proficiency in sterile technique and surgical instrumentation

    + Ability to adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment

    + Strong attention to detail and critical thinking

    + Knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, and procedural protocols
