    Job Title: Process/Chemical Engineer

    Job Description

    This role is responsible for overseeing process parameters and implementing equipment in the Rubber Mixing Department. The focus is on reducing variability and addressing production issues. Collaboration with Senior Compounder, chemists, and VP Technology is essential to create and modify formulations, ensuring adherence to ISO 9001 standards.

    Responsibilities

    + Work with the technical department, customers, mix department, sales, and customer service for creative technology implementation.

    + Develop and maintain work instructions in accordance with ISO 9001.

    + Provide technical service to production by instructing operators and creating documentation on mixing processes, cure cycles, temperatures, and process requirements.

    + Create graphs and analyze data on production parameters.

    + Extensively interact with Enterprise software (QAD) and equipment software to identify data, develop relationships, and set up formulations for production.

    + Develop and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers, providing technical service to meet their specific product needs.

    + Adjust formulations for scorch consistency by modifying formulations, mixing cycles, or running S.P.C. and changing control gates.

    + Utilize work-away stock by employing knowledge of stock and using formulations.

    + Identify and recommend process changes for cost and scrap reductions.

    + Recommend compounds for quoting and evaluate raw material for cost reductions.

    + Make recommendations for improving the effectiveness of policies and procedures.

    Essential Skills

    + Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related science.

    + 5+ years of experience in rubber mixing, molding, injection, and transfer/compression.

    + Thorough understanding of ISO9001.

    + Knowledge of various polymers.

    + Experience in rubber formulating.

    + Excellent communication skills.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Proficiency in SPC and 8-D problem-solving methods.

    + Experience in manufacturing engineering.

    Work Environment

    The position is based in a large industrial warehouse environment with a mix of old and new machinery, including production-scale rubber internal mixers, mills, and batch-off cooling equipment. The workweek consists of 10-hour days from 6 am to 4 pm, four days a week, with no work on Fridays. The plant operates two shifts with a total of 70 employees. The role involves a balanced mix of 50% time spent on the production floor and lab, and 50% at the desk. Collaboration with lab supervisors, senior process engineers, safety specialists, EHS, and production supervisors is required.

    This is a Permanent position based out of Chardon, Ohio.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr.

     

    401 K match, paid PTO and holiday

     

    Workplace Type

     

    This is a fully onsite position in Chardon,OH.
