    Job Title: Phlebotomist I Job Description

     

    The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring proper labeling and processing of specimens.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.

    + Record maintenance data and conduct decontamination processes.

    + Update patient information accurately.

    + Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process clearly and courteously.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Understand and execute physicians' orders effectively.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

    + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.

    + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

    + Attend annual department trainings.

    + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in phlebotomy, venipuncture, and specimen processing.

    + Experience in pediatric and geriatric phlebotomy.

    + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.

    + Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience in working with pediatric and geriatric patients is preferred.

    Work Environment

    The position operates from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. The role involves handling various specimen types, utilizing technologies for specimen processing, and following specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, North Carolina.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.50/hr.
