Job Title: Machinist

Job Description

The role involves setting up jobs and running parts on a CNC swiss lathe within the precision department. You will manage tasks from machine setup to part production and quality checks using micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, and bore gages. The position involves working with a cell of seven CNC lathes, handling 2-3 machines at a time, maintaining a +/- .0005 tolerance on most parts. Projects include long runs ranging from 200 to thousands of parts. Initial training will occur over two weeks alongside the 1st shift lead.

Responsibilities

+ Set up and run parts on CNC swiss lathes.

+ Ensure quality control using micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, and bore gages.

+ Meet with the 1st shift lead to receive daily job orders.

+ Operate independently after the initial training period.

+ Maintain precision within a +/- .0005 tolerance on parts.

Essential Skills

+ Ability to set up CNC lathes without assistance.

+ Experience with CNC swiss lathes.

+ Proficiency in using micrometers, calipers, and bore gages for quality checks.

+ Ability to read blueprints for job setup.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience in troubleshooting and mechanical changeover.

+ Knowledge in programming, milling, machining, and CAD/CAM systems.

Work Environment

This weekend shift position runs Friday through Sunday from 6am to 6pm, with a full 40-hour pay for timely attendance. The shop operates a clean and organized environment with recent renovations. It features a bustling production area with three shifts, maintaining a family-owned and operated atmosphere. While it can be loud and warm in summer without AC, large fans and open truck bay doors help with ventilation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
