Job Description

Under direction, performs comprehensive respiratory assessment and provides respiratory therapy as prescribed by a physician. Prepares, operates and maintains respiratory care equipment.

Job Responsibility

1. Utilizes a process in delivering care to assigned patients

2. Performs comprehensive respiratory assessment; utilizes assessment data to determine patient's actual or potential problems; Plans and chooses appropriate respiratory interventions and adjusts care as needed; collaborates with physicians on patient's plan of care; evaluates patient's responses to treatment.Administers medications per physician prescriptions; clarifies any discrepancies with physician

3. Assesses and advances frequencies and/or converts MDI as per policy. Performs respiratory care procedures such as drawing, analysis and reporting of arterial blood gases and quality control procedures; polysomnography testing; pulmonary function testing; transporting of mechanically ventilated patients. Performs respiratory care treatments such as: suctioning airways, intubation and modified chest physical therapy (cupping and clapping).Utilizes respiratory therapy equipment for purposes such as: oxygen and aerosol therapy, mechanical ventilation and monitoring oximetry.Documents assessments and patients' status and appropriate patient/ventilator checks in the medical record as per policy

4. Utilizes care maps to reflect patient's progress.Educates patient and patients significant others in respiratory therapy treatment and tests via available resource materials and consultation.Maintains respiratory therapy equipment

5. Cleans, prepares, tests and calibrates equipment as necessary

6. Troubleshoots minor equipment problems by performing repairs and documents and reports on improperly functioning equipment.Performs related duties, as required.*ADA Essential Functions

7. High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program, required. Current NYS Respiratory Therapist license, required. Registration from the National Board of Respiratory Care, required. BLS certification, required. ACLS and PALS preferred.

The salary range for this position is $55.42-$62.50/hour
