Career Opportunity:
The Cutting Manager will provide oversight and leadership in the Die Cutting department. Ensure the timely production of quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations. Proactively manage departmental metrics that impact cost (downtime, make-readies, run speed and waste). Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures. Foster a team atmosphere, provide vision, and demonstrate support of the company\u2019s values and behaviors. Be responsible for day-to-day management of assigned departments through the management of staff, including achieving production goals, managing performance of direct reports, making sound operational decisions, solving problems, and managing conflict.
How You Will Make an Impact:
* Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production issues. They then can manage improvement projects with your team that resolve the problems.
* Ensure that the schedule is met or exceeded through the proper line-up of equipment and staff to produce in the most efficient way possible.
* Consults with engineering and maintenance personnel related to modification of machines and equipment to improve production and quality of products.
* Identifies, documents, and drives departmental metrics for Productivity, Safety, Quality, Waste, and any other metrics required by the company.
* Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, continually participating in company LEAN manufacturing training and audits.
* Identifies with and supports company leadership and company decisions.
* Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
* Ensure staffing is appropriate to meet workload requirements and productivity standards.
* Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance plan for department equipment and this is done on a consistent basis.
* Investigates malfunction of machines and equipment; determines the need for repair and maintenance. Determines if repairs can be done internally or externally to get the equipment fixed right as fast as we can.
* Ensure employees are following all safety regulations including PPE, SFQ, and OSHA requirements.
* Keep abreast of new products and developments within the department and ensure that the equipment can do the job and that the proper training is performed.
* Conducts on-time performance reviews of supervisors and employees. Ensures direct reports have professional development plans and that those plans are executed in the timeframes specified.
* Leads effective shift meetings on every shift, each week.
* Actively engaging and participating in company Operational Excellence training, projects and audits.
What You Need to Succeed:
* 7+ years of leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment; folding carton experience is a must.
* Ability to be an on-shift resource for troubleshooting problems in the converting process as well as maintenance issues
* Strong leadership, strategic planning and analytical skills
* Strong focus on Safety and Quality
* Focus on Continuous Improvement; Six Sigma and / or Lean Principles highly desired
* Must have the ability to champion and lead change within the department and facility wide
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, ability to learn new software applications
* Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery
* Strong project management and facilitation skills for problem solving
* Proven successful track record in managing, motivating, and building teams
* High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree is preferred
