The School of Educations seeks an instructor to teach SWK 628 (M002): Human Diversity in Social Context (3 credits).
Description:
The course examines diversity, including ability, race, gender, sexual orientation, and selected topics. A specific focus will be given to group and institutional identity formation, theories of biopsychosocial development, reference group affiliation, social stratification, oppression, and institutional discrimination. It will provide implications for social work practice.
Diversity in the richness of its many dimensions is examined in this course. A primary focus will be given to ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, social class, and disability. Concepts, theories, research, personal experiences and practice principles, pertaining to psychosocial development, identity formation, group processes, institutional discrimination, class stratification, society and culture, guide this examination. It is my hope that students will develop self-awareness regarding their own thoughts, feelings, attitudes and behaviors in reaction to course discussions, readings, and films. Opportunities are given for students to engage in both personal and professional awareness of these issues and how they may impact their interactions with people from various minority groups.
