    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Facility Maintenance Supervisor leads, manages, and develops a team of maintenance personnel responsible for the upkeep, safety, and efficient operation of Ada County facilities and grounds. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership, ensuring that facilities are maintained to the highest standards while fostering a positive and high-performing team environment.

    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

    Work is performed under general direction and according to established guidelines, safety codes, and industry standards.

     

    Facility Maintenance Supervisor I – Entry-level supervisory classification, responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing facility maintenance activities to ensure safe and reliable operations.

    Essential Functions

    + Provides daily leadership, guidance, and supervision to facility maintenance staff; fosters a collaborative, accountable, and safety-focused team culture.

    + Plans, assigns, and reviews staff work; evaluates performance; identifies training needs; coaches employees; resolves concerns; and makes hiring and disciplinary recommendations.

    + Conducts periodic inspections of buildings, systems, and equipment to determine maintenance and repair needs.

    + Oversees and administers maintenance contracts (e.g., janitorial, grounds, equipment servicing).

    + Coordinates activities with Elected Offices, Departments, and facility staff to minimize disruption and ensure seamless operations.

    + Provides technical instruction, mentorship, and assistance with complex repairs or projects.

    + Develops, implements, and manages preventative maintenance programs for all facilities and systems.

    + Manages supply and equipment procurement, works with vendors, and monitors inventory.

    + Maintains accurate records of maintenance projects, inspections, and repairs.

    + Leads facility projects, ensuring completion on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with codes, safety standards, and operational requirements.

    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

    + Assists with policy and procedure development for facility operations and maintenance.

    + Meets routinely with Operations staff, County personnel, and other stakeholders to coordinate and communicate maintenance priorities.

    + Supports budget planning and management through accurate forecasting of labor, materials, and equipment needs.

    + Performs related duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    + High school diploma or equivalent required.

    + Minimum of five (5) years of maintenance experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead role overseeing staff.

    + Strong knowledge of building systems, construction methods, maintenance practices, and applicable codes and standards.

    + Proven leadership and supervisory skills, including performance management, coaching, and team development.

    + Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and oversee facility maintenance and improvement projects from start to finish.

    + Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, plans, specifications, and technical manuals.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

    + Excellent communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to explain technical information clearly to staff, leadership, and contractors.

    + Ability to balance multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining accurate records.

    + Commitment to building a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    + Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver’s license.

    + Subject to 24-hour call-out to supervise or assist with operational emergencies.

    + Subject to Sheriff’s Office security clearance (criminal background check and fingerprinting).

    + Must be able to support and work at all County facilities as needed.

    + May be assigned to special assignments as needed.

    + This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug testing.

     

    Work Environment & Physical Demands

     

    + Work may involve climbing ladders, scaffolding, and accessing confined or hard-to-reach areas.

    + Requires standing, bending, kneeling, and working in physically demanding conditions.

    + Requires frequently carrying tools and equipment.

    + Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

    + Must have the ability to operate motor vehicles, including but not limited to: light trucks, forklifts, scissor lifts, bucket trucks, plow trucks, or related equipment.

    + Work may occur in dirty, dusty, noisy, or hazardous environments, including correctional facilities.

    + The work performed may be in and around a jail facility and involves an element of personal danger.

    + Exposure to risks such as electrical shock, cuts, burns, and other hazards is possible; adherence to safety protocols is essential.
