This position performs investigations and environmental and engineering analyses as required for the preparation of environmental documents and related technical studies.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Work at this level is performed under close supervision with on-the-job training provided by more senior engineers.
+ Learns procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Prepares simple documents and exhibits and attends field investigations for all disciplines to become familiar with all aspects of the environmental field. Assist more senior staff, both engineers and non-engineers, with various project tasks to expand knowledge of the Department’s overall project delivery process. Participates in investigations with senior engineers, attends technical meetings with senior engineers, and learns to use applicable software and equipment.
+ Attends technical training in the use of air and noise models (attends training classes and on the job training by senior engineer),technical training for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (attends training class and on the job training in the field by senior engineer), attends training classes related to the application of the National Environmental Policy Act and its associated regulations, and Department required training classes including classes related to the use of various software programs for design and mapping.
+ Models noise and air impacts under the supervision of more senior staff and conducts Phase I Environmental Site Assessments under the supervision of more senior staff. Reviews and comments on technical documents prepared by consultants; reviews and comments on feasibility studies, line and grade studies, etc.; and designs conceptual noise abatement systems under the supervision of a senior engineer.
+ Assists with the Department’s public involvement activities for projects. Activities may include, but are not limited to, scheduling, advertisement, set-up, attendance, take-down, and preparation of exhibits for public meetings and hearings, stakeholder meetings, and similar events.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Engineer Intern 1 or Engineer Intern 2. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected.
Compensation: The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant. Bi-weekly special entrance rates have been established as follows:
+ Engineer Intern 1 $2115.20
+ Engineer Intern 2 $2263.20
