UPMC is looking for a Full Time Expert Medical Assistant to work at Suite 5600. Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred. Recent Medical Assistant graduates/externs are welcome to apply as well!
Suite 5600 Clinical Operations department includes the Digestive Disorder Center and Bariatric Services. This position's primary responsibilities include taking patients vital signs, putting patients in the correct exam room, giving patients information about next steps in their care plan, cleaning exam rooms after use, and making calls to patients to confirm visits. Medical Assistants in this department work closely with the scheduling team, the nurses, and the physicians to enhance the patient experience. This position is part of a career ladder, which gives the opportunity for growth and development within the department.
Medical Assistants work 7:30am to 4pm Monday through Friday to ensure patient care coverage. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.
The Medical Assistant assists physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. In addition to core Medical Assistant responsibilities, they serve as lead person for team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.
Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Medical Assistant Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education.
Responsibilities:
* Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
* Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
* Telephonic outreach to patients discharged from the hospital or emergency room to schedule follow up appointments and review medications and treatment plans
* Serve as the department super user for Epic Care.
* Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.
* Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.
* Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.
* Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
* High school diploma or equivalent is required.
* Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or equivalent hospital program
* OR successful completion and maintenance of certification examination and 1 year of patient care experience
* OR 2 years of direct patient care experience required.
* Successfully complete the UPMC preceptor training and serve as a preceptor and mentor to newly hired team members.
* Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks.
* Patient care experience and willingness to learn preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Act 34
+ In lieu of the MAS, relevant bachelor's degree accepted.
