Position Summary:
Accountable and responsible for inpatient diabetic education. Works with leadership a nd clinical staff to achieve a high level of education and care for the patient with diabetes. Supports and participates in the development of diabetes related education for patients, significant others and clinical staff. Participates in Staff Development educational endeavors as primary responsibilities allow.
Responsibilities:
+ Demonstrates the ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of population served, including n ewborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, while providing care/service with respect to cultural differences and spiritual needs.
+ Assesses patients educational needs related to diabetes management
+ Provides individualized patient education related to diabetes
+ Facilitates the learning process for the pediatric through adult patient population, creating a climate conducive to learning
+ Collaborates with physicians to ensure optimal care of the patient with diabetes
+ Provides interdisciplinary consultation on educational needs and concerns related to care of the patient with diabetes
+ Evaluates effectiveness and outcomes of educational endeavors
+ Identifies internal and external resources available for patients and staff
+ Demonstrates expertise in the use of computer software
+ Participates in committees and task forces
+ Provides input into annual budget for the department
+ Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
+ Current Licensure in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Current Multi-State Licensure as a Registered Nurse
+ Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross - Healthcare Provider CPR
+ Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
+ One year clinical experience in an acute care setting
Preferred:
+ Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)
+ Bachelor’s degree in nursing or healthcare field
