    Senior Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller

     

    Compensation: $160,000–$190,000 (DOE) + Bonus

     

    A mission-driven private investment firm is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager / Assistant Controller to join its growing finance and accounting team in San Francisco. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a firm that blends financial performance with social impact, particularly in the real estate sector focused on housing accessibility.

    Position Overview

    Reporting to the Corporate Controller and working closely with the CFO, this role will be instrumental in enhancing internal and external financial reporting, supporting fund operations, and driving process improvements. You’ll collaborate across departments including Operations and Asset Management, and play a key role in managing audits, investor communications, and system implementations.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Oversee quarterly fund and property-level financial reviews

    + Ensure compliance with partnership agreements and reporting requirements

    + Lead quarterly reporting to limited partners, joint venture partners, and internal stakeholders

    + Support cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning

    + Collaborate with fund administrators and property managers

    + Manage post-acquisition prorations and onboarding processes

    + Drive improvements in accounting systems, policies, and procedures

    + Assist with treasury and cash management across multiple platforms

    + Document and refine financial policies and procedures

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    Required:

    + 5+ years of accounting experience, including public accounting

    + CPA designation and strong understanding of GAAP

    + Advanced Excel modeling skills

    + Experience with real estate financial statements and fund accounting

    + Strong communication skills and attention to detail

    + High emotional intelligence and professional integrity

    + Interest in real estate, particularly multifamily and affordable housing

    Preferred:

    + Experience with Dynamo, Yardi, or Kyriba

    + Background in process optimization and automation

    + Familiarity with industry best practices
