    Job Information

     

    Open to the public, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – Technicians (Local 1547) members, and any current Municipal Employees.

     

    This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

     

    DEPARTMENT: Public Transportation

     

    HOURS OF WORK: Shifts Vary: Schedule based on seniority. 40 hours per week within Monday - Sunday

     

    To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

    Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

    + Internal applicants currently working under the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – Technicians (Local 1547) Collective Bargaining Agreement

    + Local union dispatched applicants

    + External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement

     

    Example of Duties

     

    Perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections, lubrication, servicing and minor repairs on Public Transportation Department buses and other staff vehicles and equipment within prescribed intervals. Create work orders in maintenance management system for all tasks and accurately enters time, parts, and materials used for each service. Apply strong attention to detail to ensure each vehicle is serviced thoroughly. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and others to promote a safe, clean, and harmonious work environment. Clean and maintain shop work areas. Must maintain regular time and attendance standards. Perform other duties assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

     

    High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program.

    OR

    High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and one (1) year of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

    Must possess and/or obtain:

    + Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

    + A valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction at time of hire. Applicants

     

    with a Restriction of "N - No Class A and B Passenger Vehicle" and Restriction of "L - Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible

    Preferences:

    OSHA 30-hour General Industry certificate

     

    OSHA State of Alaska Forklift Certification

     

    AssetWorks Academy for Government Fleet

     

    Cummins and/or Allison training module completion; ASE Transit Bus Certification completion

     

    Additional Important Information

     

    Applicants who successfully pass all test components may receive a conditional offer of employment pending available positions. Offers of employment are conditional based on meeting the MOA standards for the following screens, checks and examinations: Drug Screen, Functional Capacity Examination, Criminal Background Checks, and DMV Driving Record Check.

    If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

     

    If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with unrestricted Passenger endorsement with no air brake restriction. Applicants with a Restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible. Also, required is the submission of a current copy (dated within 30 days from date requested) of his/her FULL Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.

    All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

     

    As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a medical physical and functional capacity examination and will also be required to successfully complete a drug test prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.

     

    If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

     

    If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with § 40.25 and § 382.405(f) and (h).

     

    This offer of employment is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the IBEW-Technicians Local 1547.

     

    Military Service Interview Preference

     

    Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

     

    Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
